I am a Clinical Family Therapist and Couple Counsellor.PACFA Reg. Clinical 28862
I like to support people by providing an interactive and collaborative approach, which is warm, uses humour, insight, compassion, as well as the required challenges to encourage positive change in relationships.
This approach is supported at its core by academic training in therapeutic interventions and practice, as well as my 10 years' experience working as a family therapist, couple counsellor and clinical supervisor for Relationships Australia. My training is based on: Emotional focused interventions, systems theory, attachment theory, object relations, psychodynamic theory and humanist values /ethics. It is a privilege to be in the business of helping people for over 23 years. Over the years my work with people has taught me that there are two essential ingredients for therapeutic work, solid training and the therapist capacity to bring their authentic self to the work.
When I am not working, I like to walk in the bush with my dogs and or go on trails rides with close friends. I love spending time with my family and those I love and occasionally go canoeing.
I have completed a Clinical Masters in Family Therapy and have worked helping families to connect and have loving and healthy relationships for 23 years in a number of different roles. My approach to the work has been informed by my extensive practical experience, education and specialisation in relationships both intimate and familial.
I offer Clinical Supervision to professionals in the welfare/ therapeutic sector. I have completed clinical supervision training and keep my skills up to date through professional development. As a clinical supervisor I provide a caring yet objective lens to counsellors in regard to their therapeutic work. The focus of the supervision is on supporting professionals to build knowledge, consolidate skills, monitor and maintain ethical standards and responsibilities at a personal and professional level.
I have completed The Specialist Course in Couples Counselling. I have been supporting couples for 10 years and supervising clinicians who support couples for two and a half years. My training and experience, focuses on supporting people in the context of their relationships and their family of origin experiences, and how these experiences can impact intimate relationships. My capacity to assess issues at their core enables couples to make long term changes and experience significant improvements to their relationships.
Please note prior to commencing couple counselling, I meet with each partner individually to allow for the necessary safety assessments to be completed and determine whether joint couple sessions are suitable. The individual sessions also allows each partner the opportunity to discuss individual counselling goals. When booking your initial appointments, please book a session for each partner.
